<image:caption>The production and creative team met to discuss the challenge and together developed the concept of a virtual coastal ‘walk’ - where the user would encounter a series of virtual artworks, each tackling a different aspect of our relationship with Britain’s coast. I would collaborate with 3 commissioned artists to create new digital experiences online and in Somerset House.</image:caption>

<image:title>National Trust - 03. Artwork A: Tania Kovats</image:title>
<image:caption>Tania Kovats’ work centres on our experience of nature. “How can we bring this to life online?” – this was her challenge to me. We discussed making a live representation of the ebb and flow of the tides around Britain’s coast. I presented Tania with some live data visualisations I found fascinating, and the concept of a tidal map with live coastguard radio audio emerged.</image:caption>

<image:title>National Trust - 05. Artwork C: Owen Sheers</image:title>
<image:caption>Owen and I worked to produce an interactive essay that presents visitors with the essential directional choice of coastal walking - sea on the left or sea on the right. Following this choice the poem can be experienced in either direction, inspired by the reflective and non-linear interaction design of The National Film Board of Canada.</image:caption>

<image:title>National Trust - 07. Designing the Interface</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the challenges of the project was to combine three unique and artistic visions of the coastline into a single context. We needed to create a usable experience that met sophisticated behavioural expectations by the users, but still maintained as much as possible the integrity of the artworks.</image:caption>

<image:title>National Trust - 01. Defining the Challenge</image:title>
<image:caption>Our challenge was to create an immersive artwork that is ‘natively digital’, celebrates the sea and the National Trust, and reaches as wide an audience as possible. Creator Ben Wrigley and I felt that the artwork must combine elements of data connectivity, dynamic states, and a level of authorship by the audience, and not simply be analogue works of art in a digital format.</image:caption>

<image:title>National Trust - 06. Prototyping & Testing</image:title>
<image:caption>I created an interactive prototype to gain useful user insights and understand how the different artworks could be best experienced online. Based on the results, we shortened part of the experience to ensure that users remained engaged, and created more shortcuts that allowed for more flexibility in the navigation.</image:caption>

<image:title>National Trust - 04. Artwork B: Martyn Ware</image:title>
<image:caption>Founder of 70s new wave bands The Human League and Heaven 17, Martyn was inspired by the idea of a wandering beach-hut that could record stories from local seaside communities. For the exhibition, I designed an experience that gave visitors authorship to remix visuals of the places and stories collected to recreate new meanings of belonging through chance association.</image:caption>

<image:caption>To create the navigation for the interactive, I photographed items in Polly’s studio, isolated them and stitched them back together into a hyper-real version of her space. <image:caption>Polly Morgan, a taxidermy artist, was chosen as the subject for the pilot. I visited her in her studio several times to interview her and document her work. Next, I met with the BBC R&D team to create our hypotheses on what impact interactive content would have on a BBC Arts audience to establish a learning framework.</image:caption>

<image:title>BBC Arts Interactive - Agile Production Planning</image:title>
<image:caption>One UX challenge was how to balance creating an unscripted documentary while producing interactive content that needs planning? <image:title>BBC Arts Interactive - Iterating the Initial Concept</image:title>
<image:caption>I adjusted the concept to integrate the research findings and produced a detailed user flow to update the BBC team and user-test with an audience focus group. <image:caption>In order to fulfil the objective of producing a repeatable and scalable solution, I partnered with an interactive video publishing platform, proposing EKO Studio based on their matching of our project requirements. I collaborated with the EKO team to create additional functionality that conformed with BBC Accessibility & Usability Guidelines.</image:caption>

<image:title>Carbon Hero - 01. Challenging the Hypothesis</image:title>
<image:caption>When I joined the Benefacto team, they were already working with an initial product concept. I conducted research to better understand the offset market and try to establish who are main target audience would be. I proposed a hypothesis that users would be more likely to offset if they were rewarded, were 100% clear on what they were paying for, and could choose when and what to offset.</image:caption>

<image:title>Carbon Hero - 03. Iterating Design & Functionality based on User Feedback</image:title>
<image:caption>I originally planned to default to whatever project offered the cheapest offset per tonne of CO2, but now understood the need to balance price sensitivity with transparency. I responded to the “voice of customer” by iterating the design to offer one of 3 options for offsetting, highlighting the backstory to users with different price points.</image:caption>

<image:title>Carbon Hero - 04. Establishing a Look & Feel</image:title>
<image:caption>Progressing from lo-fidelity wireframes to more hi-fidelity screen mockups, I produced moodboards to help establish visual direction. The app needed to be differentiate itself in a cluttered market - it needed to friendly but at the same time, trustworthy. It called for an approachable experience that was easy to understand, yet avoided ‘environment’ clichés.</image:caption>

<image:title>Carbon Hero - 02. Testing flow with Users</image:title>
<image:caption>I created an interactive prototype and held a series of user-tests to get early feedback on the ideas. In order to make the emissions calculation easier, I used regional averages to speed up the process. However many users wanted in-depth calculations for each “product”, and to know more detail about the specific climate projects they were supporting.</image:caption>

<image:title>YLE Olivia - 05. Designing the User Interface</image:title>

<image:title>Other Projects - Current role at EOS as Head of Strategic Design</image:title>
<image:caption>As Head of Strategic Design at EOS GmbH, I lead company-wide transformation to position design as a strategic driver of growth and innovation. Reporting at executive level, I shape customer and user experience across our advanced additive manufacturing systems — hardware, software, and periphery — where usability and efficiency are mission-critical. I build and guide UX capability in a deeply engineering-driven environment, introducing frameworks, governance, and training that embed user-centred design into development. This work has delivered measurable outcomes, from double-digit gains in global satisfaction metrics to a consistent, scalable design language for some of the most complex machines in industrial 3D printing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Cousteau Tool - 03. Solution Ideation</image:title>
<image:caption>I held lightning demos to showcase other state-of-the-art tools that help surface meaningful insights from data sources. Using a “How Might We” list created with the technicians, I then facilitated rounds of crazy 8s design sketching sessions. Using dot-voting to refine ideas, we established a core concept.</image:caption>

<image:title>Cousteau Tool - 05. Prototype Testing & Iteration</image:title>
<image:caption>Next I designed a prototype that surfaced results using an ontology of terms related to symptoms and root causes. Upon testing, the technicians expressed their need for more contextual machine data. By cross-referencing report meta-data with external machine logs, I retested a revised prototype with more favourable results.</image:caption>

<image:title>Cousteau Tool - 04. Refining Concept</image:title>
<image:caption>To illustrate the new user experience of a data-mining research tool, I created a storyboard and wireframes to demonstrate the functionality associated with key user-stories.
